Apple iPhone, iPad, MacBook users beware: Central government warns

Users of Apple products, such as the iPhone, have received a warning from the national government regarding potential security risks associated with certain devices. The advisory, issued by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN), urges users of iPhones, MacBooks, iPads, and Vision Pro headsets to take immediate action to address this issue.

One specific concern mentioned in the advisory is the “remote code execution” feature found in a number of Apple products. This feature, while designed to enable certain functionalities, has been found to have a vulnerability that poses a risk to users. The vulnerability is present in the hardware hierarchy and affects various Apple software versions, including Safari versions prior to 17.4.1, macOS Ventura versions prior to 13.6.6, Vision OS versions prior to 14.4.1, iOS–iPad OS versions prior to 17.4.1, and iPad OS versions prior to 16.7.7.

To mitigate these vulnerabilities, users of iPhones and iPads are strongly advised to update their devices to newer versions as soon as possible. Additionally, MacBook users are encouraged to update their systems as well. The advisory also emphasizes the importance of regularly backing up data, implementing two-layer security settings, and downloading software from reliable sources.

By following these recommendations, individuals can minimize the risks associated with the identified vulnerabilities and ensure the security of their Apple devices.
