Maruti’s first electric vehicle, codenamed EVX, is set to hit the Indian market by the end of this year. This concept vehicle, which was unveiled at the Expo last year in Naimi, will serve as the foundation for the launch of the first electric MPV in September 2026. Codenamed as YMC, this electric multipurpose vehicle will be based on the EVX electric SUV.

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota Motors Corporation have joined forces to launch the new MPV, which will feature the same electric motor and battery options as the EVX. The MPV will share the same 27PL skateboard platform, allowing for seamless integration and efficient weight distribution.

Inside the vehicle, Maruti Suzuki and Toyota Motors Corporation will make minimal changes to the design, ensuring a consistent experience for drivers. However, they will ensure that the body styles of the two MPVs are distinct, allowing both companies to cater to different customer preferences.

The EVX is expected to offer two battery pack options, with the first being a 40 kWh battery and the second being a 60 kWh battery. The larger battery pack is claimed to provide a range of up to 550 km, ensuring sufficient range for intercity travel. Additionally, all wheel drive will be supported, providing enhanced traction and handling.

With the launch of its first electric vehicle, Maruti Suzuki aims to capitalize on the growing demand for eco-friendly vehicles in India. The EVX and the YMC electric MPV are expected to receive a warm welcome from environmentally conscious consumers looking for a practical yet sustainable transportation option.
